When children are learning to read, they should be reading three books per day, according to Mem Fox (Reading Magic). Every night, they should be reading a new book, a
familiar book and a favourite book.
In Grade One, this routine can include a variety of literacy experience. For instance, your child could read a picture book or beginner book by him/herself, read a book with you and listen to you reading a book. He/She could also listen to a book on tape or online. There are many great websites that can help you. Some examples include:

Our nightly reading program will begin in week two. Please check your child's zipper pouch on Monday, September 9th for your child's reading log.
So find a nice spot to curl up and enjoy reading each night! Our "Snuggle Up and Read" program will be coming home soon!
